Adding your first content to a “Kidstream”

With your kid’s profiles created (you will see them now in the Navigation Pane), you can add your first content. Click on one of your profiles to go to that profile page. Here, you’ll be able to add a photo and status message for your kid.

Adding a photo

First, click where it says “Click here to add a photo for your kid”. A simple form will come up asking you where you’d like to get the picture from.

You can choose to browse your Shoebox, your Flickr repository (this guide has a section on Flickr import a bit later), or your local hard drive. Because you haven’t uploaded any pictures yet, your Shoebox will be empty - let’s choose “My Computer” and then click the Select button. This will bring up a window on your computer where you can browse to find a photo to upload. Select it, and it’s that easy!

Adding a status message

Next, update your kid’s status by typing some text into the empty form field on the right hand side of the profile box.

This space is good for telling a funny story, or just a little update on what’s new in your child’s life. Many parents use it to capture cute little sayings (my daughter used to call umbrellas “bro-lellas” - still makes me crack up). When you have typed in a message, you can click on the Save button. Then the profile box will update with your message. Keep them updated regularly, and you’ll find that the history of status messages Kinzin keeps (we call it a Kidstream) gives an interesting view of your child’s life and development.

When you want to create a new status message text, click on the Edit button, and start typing.

Wishlists and Favorite Things

Below the status messages are two simple, but cool little features: Wishlists and Favorite things. Create a list of birthday gift ideas, or sure-fire recipes your kids love. Update them regularly, and you will see the evolution of your child’s interests and tastes over time. Your family will have a ready list of birthday gifts they know will please, and a list of dishes they know your kids will eat when they come by to visit. Kids can be so picky…
