Document conventions

When I refer to a button or menu item to click, I will put the Text on that Button in bold. I will put "clickable links" in bold with quotes around them, to show that they are inline with the text. As much as possible, I will retain the capitalization and punctuation of captions, titles, and links. Hopefully this, along with the liberal use of screenshots, will make things clearer, and easier to find on the screen.

The Navigation Pane

The vertical column on the left hand side of the Kinzin interface is called the Navigation Pane. There you will find the links to navigate around your Kinzin space to get to your books, your profiles, and your settings.

Invitations

Invitations are a polite way of saying "I trust you to see pictures, stories and other information about my kids." When you "invite" somebody to Kinzin, what you are doing is giving that person permission to access your private Kinzin "space", view your content and make comments. Invitations are managed in the "Sharing and Privacy" section of Kinzin, and can be revoked at any time by you. From the moment you revoke somebody’s invitation, they can no longer access your Kinzin space.

Kidstreams

In Kinzin, the Kidstream is the "stream" of photos and status messages you create for your friends and family. More than just an album, or an out-of-context photo, the Kidstream provides a more nuanced view of your child’s life.

The Shoebox

The Shoebox is the collection of all the photos you’ve ever used in Kinzin. All the photos you’ve ever uploaded from your hard drive are there, as well as any pictures from your Flickr account or Facebook albums that you’ve used in Kinzin. You can browse your Flickr collection from Kinzin and see all the photos you have there – once you have used one of those photos in Kinzin, it will appear in the Shoebox. This way, if you have many photos in your Flickr or Facebook albums, but only a few are ones of your kids, you don’t need to browse the whole collection every time to find the ones you want.
