Inviting friends & family

OK! Now you have some interesting content to share with your friends and family, so lets invite them to have a look. First, click on the Invite friends & family button on the top header.

invite command

This will take you to the screen where you can invite your friends and family to view your space (in the Facebook version, there are some additional features on this screen to manage invitations and privacy in the Facebook environment).

Inviting people via their email address

Simply enter the name and email address of the person you wish to invite, and click the Invite button. The name that you enter here for the person you are inviting is the name that will be attached to any comments they leave on your photos, so keep that in mind. As you add invitees, their names will appear in the list of People who can already see my books.

invite others

An invitee can, on his or her own, request from Kinzin a guest pass to use on a second computer (their home or work computer, for example). We will send them a second invite to the email you entered for them, and they can register their second computer.

Inviting Facebook friends

Inviting from your Facebook “friends list” is easy. Simply type in the names of the people you wish to invite, and click Invite. Nobody will need to create accounts in Facebook As you add invitees, their names will appear in the list of People who can already see my books.

Removing invitees from the space

remove memberTo remove invitees, hover over their name with your mouse, and you will see a red circle appear beside their name: Clicking on this icon will remove the invitee from the space. They won’t be notified of this, they simply won’t be able to access the space any more, and will get a politely worded message to that effect if they try to use the invitation you sent them previously.

Editing invitee’s email addresses

Right now, the only way to change the email address of an invitee is to delete their account and then add a new one with the updated email address. We recognize this isn’t perfect, and we will be adding the ability to edit invitee accounts within a few weeks. In the meantime, hopefully you will consider this a small inconvenience.

Connecting with other families

other kidsWhen you are invited to the space of another parent, you will see a new section called Other People’s Kids added to your Navigation Pane. In this new section will be a button called Connect with parents... and links to the Kidstreams of other parents who have sent invitations to you.

Clicking on Connect with parents... will take you to the invitations page. From there, you can invite other parents that you know to view your Kidstreams.

Clicking on the name of a space you have been invited to will take you to that space. Don’t forget to leave a comment so they know you visited!

Privacy Settings

You have probably noticed that each application you install in Facebook adds a “Box” to your profile, and news items to your Mini-feed. Who can see your profile and feed items (and so the information published by the applications you have installed) is controlled by the privacy settings of your Facebook profile. Typically, only your Facebook “Friends” can see it. Kinzin also adds a Profile Box and Mini-feed items, but adds another layer of privacy settings beyond what is offered by Facebook itself. By default, the box will display the latest status message and photo for each one of your kids to friends whom you’ve given the right to view your Facebook Profile. However, Kinzin goes one step further in that everything in that box can be configured from the Privacy tab.

You can check or uncheck boxes to share or hide information from your Facebook friends. Remember: this is how you control what Kinzin can put in your Facebook profile. Your Facebook privacy settings are still what controls who can access your profile itself. When you change your settings it takes a few minutes to update the Profile Box.

Below are two examples of what your Facebook profile box might look like, with all boxes checked, and again with all boxes unchecked:

all settings checked
