Great question. Kinzin is for creating private family spaces, for sharing and connecting with the people you love.
One of the many things that’s true in the 21st century is that our families are spread all over the globe. We don’t have the physical family spaces we used to have, where close friends and family members of all generations can gather together. Kinzin is trying to help recapture that sense of place. We’re not about connecting with people you hardly know, or publishing photos or stories to the whole world. We’re about connecting with loved ones and sharing the things that matter most to us.
There are a few things in particular that make Kinzin cool, and I’d like to draw your attention to them up front.
- Technology-independent: Kinzin is for family social networks, and those networks are not about everybody all using the same technology to communicate. Sounds obvious, doesn’t it? Think about it: some members of your family use Facebook, some use email only, others don’t even have a computer and mostly use the postal mail to stay in touch. Kinzin allows people to use any of these three communication channels: Facebook, email, or postal mail (really, delivered right to her door). No more begging your family to all to join some particular network so you can stay in touch.
- Private by default: Because Kinzin was designed from the beginning to be a private family social network, the easiest thing to do is be private. You don’t need to search around in the settings to find a way to keep things private. It’s the default. This small thing makes everybody feel a lot more confident, and allows us to make things a lot simpler.
- A more nuanced view of your child’s life: Kinzin is about more than just photos. It’s about the “stream” of your child’s life – how they’re different this week from last week. How their tastes and styles and abilities grow and change over time. Kinzin has been built to help you create a narrative, to capture the story of your child’s life as it happens.
This guide is provided to help you get the most out of Kinzin in the shortest time. I will be walking you through the main features of the application, and wherever I can, making what I hope will be helpful suggestions about how to use those features to the greatest benefit. Kinzin’s not a complicated application, but it has a lot of depth. Experiment yourself, and if you find a new and interesting way of using it, please let us know!
All applications have flaws, so there’s no point in pretending they don’t exist, right? Occasionally, there will be parts of the system that aren’t as good as they could be. Some we know about, and where possible I will be pointing them out to you and giving you some idea of when improvements are coming, and how to work around them. We’ve tested this application very thoroughly but you may still find problems we’re not aware of. We would love it if you would help us out by sending us a quick note (to support@kinzin.com), so we can work on making Kinzin better for everybody.
